Solar Project Highlights
Woodco Renewable Energy continues to work with hotels in Ireland, supporting the Irish Hotel Federation each year at their annual AGM conference, being an associate member and exhibiting each year at the Original Irish Hotels AGM. Hotels and Leisure Centres are high users of energy with swimming pools, hot water, space heating, lighting and refrigeration making up significant costs associated with running a hotel.
Clanard Court Hotel
The Clanard Court Hotel is an award-winning, family-run 4-star hotel in Athy, Co. Kildare, known for its luxury country style and top-rated Irish hospitality. It features 47 spacious rooms, the popular Bailey’s Bar & Bistro, the Revive Garden Spa & Beauty Rooms, resident alpacas, and is a premier wedding venue, just 50 minutes from Dublin.
Clanard Court Hotel wanted to reduce their rising electricity and heating bills. They wanted to engage with an experienced renewable energy company who offered multiple renewable solutions including for heating and electricity. Woodco Renewable Energy were an obvious choice for their experience and portfolio in the hospitality industry.
The Solar Journey – The Beginning
Woodco Renewable Energy had completed a successful biomass boiler installation at the Clanard Court Hotel, and they continue to avail of the SEAI ongoing grant for renewable heat, making huge savings on their fuel costs and have decarbonised their heating.
As electricity costs continued to rise, the Clanard Court Hotel wanted to install Solar PV panels to decarbonise and save nearly 55% of their daytime usage.
As The Clanard Court Hotel had different ideas on where to place the solar PV, there were multiple different design reports and meetings with Solarco. The hotel had an area of land suitable for a ground mount system adjacent to the hotel. Solarco’s commercial sales manager Gerard Kennedy assisted hotel management in choosing what suited their needs best. This was a 70kWp roof mounted system.
The Solar Journey – The Installation
Solarco installed a 70-kWh rooftop Solar PV system (138 panels) on the flat & slate roof of the hotel. The hotel was not disrupted during any of Woodco Renewable Energy’s renewable energy projects.
The system is providing Clanard Court Hotel with savings of over €16,800 per annum (at current unit cost).
Solar PV & Biomass Heating at Clanard Court Hotel
Woodco Renewable Energy has worked with many hotels in Ireland on solar pv and biomass projects.
Solar PV is grant aided and helps businesses dramatically reduce their electricity bills. Solar PV earns savings of €16,800 per annum at The Clanard Court Hotel.
Biomass is also grant aided and allows large heat users like hotels make huge savings on expensive fossil fuels like oil and gas. For biomass, they also avail of the Support Scheme for Renewable Heat from the SEAI and gets paid €28,316 for 15 years. Biomass Fuel brings further savings versus fossil fuels and is exempt from carbon tax.
