This Solar Case Study examines Walsh Mushrooms Golden’ journey to converting to a Solar PV system to power their business.
Walsh Mushrooms in Golden, Tipperary is one of the largest mushroom farms in the UK or Ireland. They supply over 500 tonnes of fresh mushrooms to the UK market place, growing over 150 tonnes of fresh mushrooms in Ireland.
Woodco/SolarCo completed a 600kw Solar PV Project at Walsh Mushrooms Golden, which produces 530,000kw hours of free electricity for use on the farm per annum. Walsh Mushrooms are a valued client of Woodco as they already have a 500kw WoodCo SUPERMAX Boiler. In addition they have a 1 megawatt biomass boiler fuelled by wood chip to meet their heat demands.
The Solar PV System – Solar Case Study
SolarCo installed a rooftop Solar PV System at Walsh Mushrooms Golden, to meet the farms electricity demand. The panels were erected on multiple roofs facing south, west & east. Overall 1200 panels were used in this project.
600 kW of Solar PV Panels were erected with six 100kW Solis inverters.
The 600kW Solar PV System will produce around 530,000kwh of free electricity per annum for the distillery.
This results in savings of €222,494 per annum (at current unit cost).
